HELLO! My name is Merideth Marier (pronounced Mar eee ay).
I am the Speech-Language Pathologist for Stewart Middle School.
FUN FACTS I grew up in a tiny town in South Dakota and also lived for fifteen years in California before relocating to Georgia. I love taking in all the beautiful scenery that Sweetwater Creek State Park offers while my husband runs the trails. I have a lovely adult daughter who is married and living in Denver and my step-son attends college at West GA. Joining in our park adventures are Cleopatra the site hound hybrid (who looks more like a giraffe than a dog) and Willow the yellow lab mix. I also have a 17 year old white cat with one green and one blue eye who is missing 1/2 an ear, has many extra toes and enjoys caterwauling at all hours of the night.
THERAPY INFORMATION My therapy setting is a safe place where we work in small groups, can try new things, make mistakes and not be afraid that we will be teased. Kindness is the most important rule. No one gets made fun of for answering a question or trying to produce a sound correctly.
I remind students that if we don’t work hard during therapy, we aren’t making the most of our time and our progress will be limited. We also talk about the importance of practicing our skills outside of the therapy room. I remind my young clients meaningful progress won't be made if skills aren’t practiced outside the confines of the therapy room. Thank you in advance for encouraging your children to use their best speech and language skills in the home, as well as in school!
At the middle school level students can typically voice what concerns them most about their speech and language skills. This open line of communication can help inform what we work on in therapy. By giving students a degree of ownership in their therapy process they are typically more vested in their therapy. This sense of ownership increases students’ pride in their progress and overall work ethic.
