"Google believes in community involvement and especially values education," said Superintendent North. "The company has made several large grants to the Douglas County Education Foundation which serves the students and teachers in our schools. In addition, Google donates time, skills, and financial resources to events that benefit our students such as the Georgia Gravity Games which take place each year in downtown Douglasville."

In March of 2018, Google gave $95,135 to the Douglas County Education Foundation, formerly Public Education Trust. The grant is the largest single gift to the foundation in its 25 year history. The grant will foster computer science in elementary schools. In addition, Google awarded the Foundation an additional grant of $23,672 in March for the school system to use for students with speech language impairments.

Google is a sponsor of the Georgia Gravity Games which take place each year in Douglasville. In addition to having fun, students learn teamwork and STEM skills from the gravity-only car race competition.

The partnership between Google and the school system will take another step forward in the 2018-2019 school year when the school system becomes a G-Suite. All students and teachers will have access to a Google educational account that will provide access to a district-issued Google Drive, Calendar, and online collaboration applications such as Docs, Slides, and Sheets. Schools will also have access to Google Classroom -an online platform for assigning, collecting and grading work digitally. At the elementary and middle school level, Chromebooks will be introduced as new student devices. All students in grades K-12 will utilize G-Suite as their primary productivity tool.
